I’m a certified Oracle Database Administrator and I have yet to be able to get a job in oracle, even though I am certified and have shown that I have the ability to not only use Oracle, but pass all the tests, heck I even took an extra test not even required and passed it too.
My teacher wasn’t even certified in Oracle at the time he taught the classes, but he was a teacher because he has his teaching degree. I’ve been turned down for jobs because I didn’t have a bachelors degree or on the job experience, and because I was a bubbly blonde with long hair, big boobs and blue eyes.. ( I wasn’t taken seriously )… I suppose I reminded them of the blonde doctor from Mad TV, all bubbly and silly.

There are girls out there that went this path but it’s not easy finding jobs in Oracle for females. Maybe men are afraid of us? I don’t know… maybe it’s just hard to believe we actually know what we say we know, even when we have the little shiny card and the papers saying so.

I gave up on even trying… I lost my last job to a classmate who had a masters degree but he never passed a single exam at Prometric… this man is now an Oracle Database Administrator… he’s not certified, never had experience in the IT field ( he had a Masters in something else ) and he contacts me for help asking me what he should do with his database issues. They passed me up for him. I should have gotten a bachelors in basket weaving, maybe then I would have gotten the job.

P.S. Yes, I’m bitter about it. Graduating top in my class with a 4.0 average in Tech school and certified, but no job after, wouldn’t you be?
