Posted by Oleksiy Kovyrin under Links · english

Berkeley University.

20 great jobs that don’t require a degree

Posted by Oleksiy Kovyrin under Blog, Links

There is very controversial article on CNN.com
about some jobs inside US for which Colledge Degree is not required.

What do Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and entertainment mogul David Geffen have in common? Besides being exceedingly rich, none of them has a college degree. Four-year college not only path to well-paid work…

As I think, these 20 jobs are not so interesting and young people don’t need to pay attention to such absurd articles and they really need to start building their own careers by obtaining a university degree, or at the very least a degree from an online university.

Some days ago I came across very interesting article “Hiring is obsolete” by the Paul Graham and I completely agree with them in the following:

Don’t drop out of college to start a startup. There’s no rush. There will be plenty of time to start companies after you graduate…

Polyglot

Posted by Oleksiy Kovyrin under Blog · english

Berkeley lectures as podcasts

Posted by Oleksiy Kovyrin under Development

Last week I’ve found very interesting podcasts directory on Berkeley University site. There are full lectures podcasts for IT, technical, history and other courses of this university.

Most interesting for me (I have subscribed to them) there are CS courses for Computer Science students:

  • CS 162 – Operating Systems and System Programming
  • CS 61A – The Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs
  • CS 61B – Data Structures
  • CS 61C – Machine Structures

These courses are interesting because my own university have not so professional teachers and I was not able to study this courses as deeply as Berkeley students can.

If you want, you can digg post about described directory.

Regular expressions info: Regexp Tutorials, Tools, Examples

Posted by Oleksiy Kovyrin under Development

Today I dugg very interesting site about regular expressions. There are many useful information about regexps such as: complete regexp tutorial, links to useful tools and regexp libraries for almost all programming languages.

I think, regular expressions and unix shell are the must to know for any IT professional because they can greatly improve your performance in routine tasks. Even my wife – web designer – some times uses regexps in her favourite html-editor for massive links/tags replacements.

So, if you do not know anything about regexp yet, it is really good deal to get knowledge about professional text-processing tool – regular expressions.
